BCC Studies
In 2020, BCC grants awarded to UCLA exceeded $6.4 million, and were awarded to faculty in the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and the Dept of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (in Semel / Psychiatry), Center for Health Services and Society (in Semel / Psychiatry), Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, Dept of Family Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease, Luskin School of Public Policy, and the UCLA Labor Center in the UCLA Institute for Research on Labor and Employment. Funded studies focus on the impact of proposition 64 on maladaptive cannabis use and treatment for cannabis use disorder, toxicity of inhaled and second-hand cannabis smoke, neurobiological and behavioral impact of cannabis marketing, employment conditions in California’s cannabis industry, demographic analysis of the licensed cannabis industry and cannabis consumers, and assessment of feasibility and consequences of implementing a cannabis potency tax. The funded grants exemplify the breadth of cannabis research at UCLA.
