Talk Title: “The View from the Grassroots: Learning from Cannabis Labor in California”
Bio: Cannabis labor, often performed by workers of color, has been a critical but understudied part of developing the knowledge, practices and value defining California’s industry. Reflecting on findings from 5 years of in-depth ethnography in Los Angeles’s changing industry, and laying out a new statewide BCC-funded worker study, Dr. Chlala’s work explores why and how cannabis workers are key to understanding the industry’s past, present and future, particularly the prospects for comprehensive equity.
